GCS parents make a commitment of 30
hours of volunteer service to the
school each year. Parents work in the
classroom assisting the classroom
teacher, serve meals to the
children, garden, participate in holiday
celebrations, catalogue library books,
read to the children and
design decorative displays. Parents
who work are encouraged to come on
Saturdays for Parent
Work Days.

In September, during GCS' first month, parents took
the lead in building the school's
playground with the help of supplies furnished by Home Depot. They constructed
bookshelves for the school's library, built cubbies for all the classrooms, re−painted all of
the school's iron fencing, laid 87 bags of soil and all of the sod for the lawn adjacent to
the school's office, built a vegetable garden, painted U.S. and world maps on the
school's play area and painted a sixty−foot
long Henri Rousseau themed mural to
decorate the lunch area. Since January, parents have been engaged on Thursday
afternoons and Saturday mornings in painting two additional murals to adorn the
entrance to the school building.
We thank all of the parents volunteers who have been working
in the classroom, serving
meals, gardening, working in the library, greeting cars at the entrance gate and
performing a number of other jobs at school. We have many opportunities for parents to
complete volunteer hours on a schedule that works for them. Parents can sign up to
garden, help with a parent satisfaction survey, assist in the classroom, monitor dance
classes, work in the K-1 art classes, paint, or sew recital costumes.
