Thank you for your interest in GCS!
At this time, Gabriella Charter School is at capacity for enrollment in Kindergarten through 8th grade. If you wish to have your student(s) added to the wait list for the current 2014-2015 school year, please contact the GCS office at (213) 413-5741 to obtain the necessary documents.
How to Enroll for the 2015-2016 School Year
Our public lottery for the 2015-2016 school year will take place on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium. To be included in the public lottery, interested families must submit an original, completed lottery form by Thursday, March 5, 2015, no later than 5:00 p.m. Please note that faxed lottery forms will not be accepted. Applicants are welcome to attend the lottery if they choose to do so, but their presence is not required to secure a spot at GCS.
New applications will be required each year for wait-listed students, regardless of a student’s status on the waiting list for the previous year. In other words, all students who are on the current 2014-2015 wait list will need to re-enter the next year's lottery.
Gabriella Charter School is open to all students residing in California who wish to attend the school. If the number of students applying for enrollment exceeds the openings available, entrance is determined by a random public drawing. GCS does not discriminate against any student on the basis of disability, gender, gender identity, gender expression, nationality, race or ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic that is contained in the definition of hate crimes set forth in Section 422.55 of the Penal Code.
GCS gives preference to existing students of the school, children who have siblings already enrolled in the school, pupils who reside within the LAUSD attendance area, and the children of GCS employees and board members, not to exceed 10% of the School’s total enrollment. If a child gains admission, any siblings who are also applying will automatically be given the next enrollment slot, if available for their grade, or they will move to the waitlist for their grade. Once a grade level is drawn to capacity, applications will continue to be drawn for position on a wait list.
Enrollment and Wait List Procedures
Within two weeks of the lottery, GCS notifies families in writing of their enrollment status (i.e., offered enrollment or placement on waiting list). Each student offered a space in the following year is required to submit a complete enrollment packet within two weeks of receiving the written notification. Families are encouraged to attend an enrollment intake session after the lottery and before the Confirmation Deadline to assist families in filling out forms.
If a space opens during the course of the year, GCS will contact the family of the student on the top of the waiting list to offer their student admission to the school. Up until two weeks prior to the start of the upcoming school year, the family has ten (10) business days to confirm enrollment and return a completed enrollment packet in person. If a student is notified during the current school year, they will have 72 hours to confirm intent to enroll (via phone or email) and to submit a complete enrollment packet in person. Should the family decline the position, the next family on the list will be contacted until the open position is filled. Students who are not granted enrollment for the next school year will remain on the waiting list until the end of the school year unless otherwise requested by the parent to be taken off. Students must reapply for the following year if placed on a wait list.
Does Gabriella Charter School offer TK (Transitional Kindergarten)?
According to the California Education Code, to be admitted to kindergarten, a child must reach the age of five on or before September 1, 2015 for the 2015-2016 school year. California law mandates this per the Kindergarten Readiness Act of 2010 (EC Section 48000[a]). As such, students in the date ranges listed below will be placed in the following programs:
- Kindergarten: Reaching the age of five on or before September 1, 2015
- Transitional Kindergarten: Reaching the age of five between September 2, 2015 and December 2, 2015
The Transitional Kindergarten program at GCS is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum, which is both age and developmentally appropriate. Please note that both Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten students will be placed in the same classroom for the academic year.
