Curriculum

At GCS, teachers develop lessons in academic content areas that align to the Common Core State Standards, which have been adopted by the state of California.  Teachers at GCS integrate lessons, activities, and strategies from multiple sources to develop a rigorous instructional program, and receive professional development to implement core programs effectively.  Programs that will be employed in the 2014-2015 school year include:

 

Literacy:

  • Readers' Workshop (Grades 1-5)
  • Writers' Workshop (Grades K-8)
  • Houghton-Mifflin Phonics (Grades K-1)

Math:

  • Singapore Math (Grades K-5)
  • College Preparatory Mathematics (Grades 6-8)

Science:

  • FOSS (Grades K-5)
  • Focus on Science/CPO (Grades 6-8)

History:

  • History Alive! (Grades 6-8)

 

Gabriella Charter School also embraces an arts-based education, with a particular focus on dance.  The dance curriculum employed at GCS progresses from grades Kinder through eighth in the following dance genres:

  • Kindergarten: Ballet, Reading in Motion (RIM), and Choreography
  • First Grade: Ballet, Creative Movement, and Choreography
  • Second Grade: Ballet, Theater Dance, and Choreography
  • Third Grade: Ballet, Tap, and Choreography
  • Fourth Grade: Ballet, Tap, and Choreography
  • Fifth Grade: Modern, Jazz, and Choreography
  • Sixth Grade: Modern, Jazz, and Choreography
  • Seventh Grade: Contemporary, Hip Hop, Choreography
  • Eighth Grade: Contemporary, Hip Hop, Choreography

Students at GCS also receive instruction in music (K-4, once per week) and visual arts (K-5 once per week, 6-8 four times per week).
